Over the past few months, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of spam and unwanted messages being posted to our forums. We believe this to be the direct result of automated software posting these messages.
Spam is annoying to everyone and our users are no different.
We have thus decided to fix this problem by rolling out CAPTCHA functionality to the forums. A CAPTCHA is a program that can generate and grade tests that humans can pass but current computer programs cannot. It is a type of challenge-response test used to ensure that the response is generated by a live person, rather than a spam bot or a computer. This helps prevent automated software from performing actions like post spam and unwanted messages on blogs or forums.
Implementing this functionality will help ensure that we reduce the amount of spam and other unwanted messages from being posted to the forum. We are confident that this new CAPTCHA functionality, while mildly annoying, will actually help improve the experience for every user on the site.
We expect to roll this functionality out very shortly. Please watch this space for more details.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any additional questions or concerns.
